Ghostcity

Two more months have passed, and now it's done: Ghostcity exists!
The first 6 evenings in front of audience are done, one more to go in Basel, then moving to Aarau next week to perform there, then we're off to Frankfurt/Main. A filled summer.
It's good to have audience now, it's a bliss to perform, and I'm very happy with the results of our work. Hooray!

Signs of Life / Architectural research (I)

La Chaux-en-Fonds, where we spent a fabulous time trying to notice everything that is significant for architecture and life.

My Rehearsal Space is my Castle

I didn't see much of Switzerland yet, instead I spend hours with my lovely new jigsaw in this lovely huge hall.

Do-it-yourself!

Why did it never before occur to me, that, if I needed something that's made of wood, I could simply build it myself? - Because I somehow have this holy believe in "old" furniture.
More concrete: I believe, that an old piece of furniture is doing its job better than a brand-new one, because the older one has more experience doing what it needs to do. It lived through more things, and brings a very different athmosphere as well.

Nontheless, yesterday, after seven years of sleeping in other people's beds, on sofas, on a mattress on the floor, ... I finally decided to build my own bed! It will get old too, and we will build up experience together! Ha!
So here it is:

And it even has a HUGE space beneath it to stow all the stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else. It's amazing!

I'm sorry, I don't have time to work, I need to cuddle with my new bed...

GhostCity / ProtoCity

Showed the Proto "Corner Cuts" in Stuttgart, and was extremely happy with it. Lovely audience, great feedbacks, and amazing work of Marius Kob, who built and planned it so far. Now summer needs to come, when it's time to move to Switzerland to make the GhostCity happen! Meanwhile I'm collecting sounds and noises and city-stories.

100 Years Women's Day

In Flensburg we celebrated the 100th birthday of the women's day with a huge art performance at the town hall. 12 visual artists - Antje Fuchs, Lena Kießling, Brigitta Krause, Solvej Krüger, Barbara Leonhard, Christiane Limper, Melanie Loitz, Karin Mohrdieck, Sigrid Maria Möller, Dorothee Mügge, Julia-Friederike Nierade and Maren Schwartzkopf - each created a costume that expresses their art-approach and has a connection to feminity, and presented them in a kind of fashion show.
I had been asked to join the group in late january, as another artist broke her leg and wasn't able to perform. As I was pretty busy I asked permission to use an "old" costume - and there she was, The Bride!

(Pictures: Winfried Lühr-Tanck)

Special Thanks to Antje Fuchs, who organized the whole show.

There has been made a calendar 2012 that features the 12 artists and costumes.
If you're interested in buying it, ask me for more information!

Cäcilie

Enjoying the changes, that come through painting and clothes. The small one is nearly finished now.

Apart from that I'm packing, unpacking and repacking boxes, and shuffle them from one place to another. When did I collect all that stuff? One day I need to be strong enough to simply throw 90% of it away.. - One day.

Dear Diary (03)

Dear Diary,

one of the things I enjoy most about living alone is that I can put everything wherever I want it to be without anyone telling me that it wouldn't belong there.
As a matter of fact, I now have my sprout-O-mat in the bathroom, as well as an umbrella (you never know when you will need one); my office-collection spends its time unlovedly in the hallway, and my kitchen-cupboards not only hold my full boardgame-collection, but also the street theatre costume of the mutant spider-bride, a drill stand, a sander, and everything else a woman living on her own could need.
What a pleasure!

New Spaces

I finally moved!
The second-choice flat is smaller than first-choice one, but there's still a tiny little spot for my workshop-space. So it's big enough. And since I managed to talk the landlord into giving me a basement-room as well, everything seems to fit in. Hooray!

(Only Minus in moving: I miss internet and phone.)

Dear Diary (02)

Dear Diary,

today I was very happy because I was going to sign the contract for my new huge and pretty flat in the evening.
Unfortunately the 88yo landlord forgot that I had called to say "yes, I want it!" already and spent the day waiting for my phonecall, until she finally gave the flat to someone else. I can feel fate laughing harrassingly about me.

It's done!

After one more week of hard work on costume, handlings and details it's done. Premiere was on the third of february, and it went quite well. Now it's off my hands and fully under control of the Hör- und Schaubühne Stuttgart.
A weird feeling, always again, not to be on stage as well. I'll have to learn it better to have less adrenaline-d premieres.

On my way

"Won't be finished today - too cold"

I found this in the main shopping street of Stuttgart, and it weirdly mirrors my mood: I feel like saying the same to my commissioners. There was spring just two weeks ago. Where did it go to?

Dienstag, 25. Januar 2011

A tale of things I didn't know I could do

Next week a commission work for a theatre company in Stuttgart is due. We started to work on it last february with some basic material experiments and improvisations, and I continued working every here and then. These days last things have to be done in a hurry, and soon it's over.
Main things I learned? - Decisions are important. Dare a lot, but think about it properly before starting the first act on it. Improvisation is a true friend for the performer of uncommon tasks. Don't work when very tired.
That's it. Results will be shown on stage next week, but some previews here:

Latex Experiences

Note to self: Latex darkens more than expected.

More story-based: One day, the two Marias, who liked to look nature-bound, got very burned in the sunshine, so they had to wear proper make-up until the end of their lifes to cover the marks.

Dear Diary (01)

Dear Diary,

last night I was invited to a proper diner into a proper restaurant.
Unfortunately I had just put my only pair of warm shoes into plaster to take a cast of them.
That's why I left the house in borrowed 45-sized shoes.
When I felt the waitress' gaze on my feet I didn't even start to explain.
It suddenly felt very absurd.

"Paint me a sheep!"

That's what my flatmate, The Princess, gave me one evening, as an excuse for staying up longer than he actually was allowed to. I instantly fell in love with it.
